Mesura tot just 2 mm, per\u00f2 pot infestar una gran varietat d\u2019arbres i arbustos d\u2019import\u00e0ncia ornamental i agr\u00edcola, perforant galeries a les seves branques joves. A Europa es va detectar per primera vegada l\u2019any 2011 (It\u00e0lia) i va arribar a Espanya el 2019 (Mallorca), estenent-se posteriorment a Catalunya el 2020. Aquest insecte causa    <\/span><\/span><strong><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW68552565 BCX8\"><span class=\"TextRun SCXW68552565 BCX8\" lang=\"ES-ES\" data-contrast=\"auto\">marciment<\/span><\/span>, <span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW68552565 BCX8\"><span class=\"TextRun SCXW68552565 BCX8\" lang=\"ES-ES\" data-contrast=\"auto\">trencament<\/span><\/span><span class=\"TextRun SCXW68552565 BCX8\" lang=\"ES-ES\" data-contrast=\"auto\"><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW68552565 BCX8\"> de <\/span><\/span><span class=\"TextRun SCXW68552565 BCX8\" lang=\"ES-ES\" data-contrast=\"auto\"><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW68552565 BCX8\">branques<\/span><\/span><span class=\"TextRun SCXW68552565 BCX8\" lang=\"ES-ES\" data-contrast=\"auto\"><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW68552565 BCX8\"> i <\/span><\/span><span class=\"TextRun SCXW68552565 BCX8\" lang=\"ES-ES\" data-contrast=\"auto\">deca\u00efment<\/span><\/strong> <span class=\"TextRun SCXW68552565 BCX8\" lang=\"ES-ES\" data-contrast=\"auto\"><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW68552565 BCX8\">en els arbres que ataca, i pot afectar boscos, plantacions fruiteres, vivers i zones urbanes. La seva petita mida i l\u2019h\u00e0bit de vida<\/span><\/span> <strong><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW68552565 BCX8\">ocult<\/span> <span class=\"TextRun SCXW68552565 BCX8\" lang=\"ES-ES\" data-contrast=\"auto\">a<\/span> <span class=\"TextRun SCXW68552565 BCX8\" lang=\"ES-ES\" data-contrast=\"auto\"><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW68552565 BCX8\">l\u2019interior<\/span><\/span> <span class=\"TextRun SCXW68552565 BCX8\" lang=\"ES-ES\" data-contrast=\"auto\"><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW68552565 BCX8\">de<\/span><\/span> <span class=\"TextRun SCXW68552565 BCX8\" lang=\"ES-ES\" data-contrast=\"auto\">la <\/span><span class=\"TextRun SCXW68552565 BCX8\" lang=\"ES-ES\" data-contrast=\"auto\">fusta<\/span><\/strong> <span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW68552565 BCX8\"><span class=\"TextRun SCXW68552565 BCX8\" lang=\"ES-ES\" data-contrast=\"auto\">dificulten el control amb m\u00e8todes convencionals, ja que els insecticides de contacte amb prou feines arriben a les plagues amagades. data-contrast=\"auto\">fong simbiont<\/span>, <i><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Ambrosiella xylebori<\/span><\/i>. <span data-contrast=\"auto\">Les femelles de l\u2019escarabat transporten espores d\u2019aquest fong en estructures especials del seu cos. En perforar la fusta i iniciar una galeria,<\/span> <span data-contrast=\"auto\">sembren el fong a les parets del t\u00fanel.<\/span> <i><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Ambrosiella xylebori<\/span><\/i> <span data-contrast=\"auto\">creix dins de la fusta alimentant-se del teixit vegetal i recobreix les galeries amb el seu miceli i les seves espores. Les larves de l\u2019escarabat<\/span>  <span data-contrast=\"auto\">no s\u2019alimenten directament de la fusta<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">, sin\u00f3 que consumeixen el fong cultivat, del qual obtenen els seus nutrients. En altres paraules,<\/span> X. compactus<span data-contrast=\"auto\"> \u00e9s un \u201cescarabat agricultor\u201d: cultiva el seu propi aliment f\u00fangic a l\u2019interior de l\u2019arbre. Aquesta relaci\u00f3 mutualista \u00e9s tan estreta que el desenvolupament i la reproducci\u00f3 de l\u2019escarabat<\/span> <span data-contrast=\"auto\">depenen totalment del fong<\/span>; <span data-contrast=\"auto\">sense ell, les larves no poden prosperar i el cicle de vida de l\u2019insecte s\u2019interromp.<\/span>  <span data-ccp-props=\"{\"335551550\":6,\"335551620\":6}\"> <\/span><\/p><p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">No obstant aix\u00f2, <\/span><i><span data-contrast=\"auto\">X. compactus<\/span><\/i><span data-contrast=\"auto\"> no nom\u00e9s s\u2019associa amb <\/span><i><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Ambrosiella xylebori<\/span><\/i><span data-contrast=\"auto\">, sin\u00f3 tamb\u00e9 amb altres esp\u00e8cies de <\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">fongs sapr\u00f2trofs<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">  (<\/span><i><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Ambrosiella macrospora<\/span><\/i><span data-contrast=\"auto\">) i <\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">pat\u00f2gens<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">  (<\/span><i><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Fusarium solani<\/span><\/i><span data-contrast=\"auto\">,  <\/span><i><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Epicoccum nigrum<\/span><\/i><span data-contrast=\"auto\">), que poden influir en la simptomatologia observada en les plantes infestades. <\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{\"335551550\":6,\"335551620\":6}\"> <\/span><\/p><p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Por otra parte, en muchos casos el hongo<\/span> <i><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Ambrosiella <\/span><\/i><span data-contrast=\"auto\">tambi\u00e9n puede actuar como pat\u00f3geno del \u00e1rbol, ampliando el da\u00f1o: causa necrosis en los tejidos (lesiones oscuras en la madera) y contribuye al marchitamiento del hu\u00e9sped. No obstant aix\u00f2, en el cas dels escarabats de l\u2019ambrosia com <em>X. compactus<\/em>, els m\u00e8todes convencionals solen fallar a causa del seu estil de vida cr\u00edptic a l\u2019interior de la fusta i de la seva r\u00e0pida dispersi\u00f3. Aqu\u00ed \u00e9s on sorgeix una idea innovadora:<em> i si, en lloc d\u2019atacar directament l\u2019escarabat, ataquem el seu fong alimentari? <\/em>Si aconseguim suprimir o eliminar <em>Ambrosiella xylebori<\/em>, <strong>estar\u00edem \u201ctallant el subministrament\u201d d\u2019aliment<\/strong> per a <em>X. compactus<\/em>, impedint que cri\u00ef noves generacions. Aquest enfocament de <strong>control biol\u00f2gic indirecte<\/strong> busca explotar el tal\u00f3 d\u2019Aquil\u00b7les de l\u2019escarabat: la seva necessitat vital d\u2019un fong mutualista.   <\/p><p>Un candidat prometedor per a aquesta tasca \u00e9s un altre fong, <em><strong>Trichoderma asperellum<\/strong><\/em>, concretament la <strong>soca T34<\/strong>. Els <em>Trichoderma<\/em> s\u00f3n fongs beneficiosos \u00e0mpliament coneguts en agricultura per la seva capacitat d\u2019antagonitzar altres fongs (s\u00f3n <em>\u201cmicoparas\u00edtics\u201d<\/em>), competir per l\u2019espai i els nutrients, i fins i tot estimular les defenses de les plantes. La soca <em>T. asperellum<\/em> T34, en particular, s\u2019utilitza comercialment com a biofungicida en cultius, per la seva efic\u00e0cia en el control de pat\u00f2gens del s\u00f2l. La hip\u00f2tesi dels investigadors era que <strong>T34 podria colonitzar el mateix h\u00e0bitat que <em>Ambrosiella<\/em> (la fusta o la rizosfera de la planta) i despla\u00e7ar-lo o inhibir-lo<\/strong>, interrompent aix\u00ed la mutualitat insecte-fong. En resum: utilitzar un <em>fong benefici\u00f3s<\/em> per combatre un <em>fong perjudicial<\/em> i, d\u2019aquesta manera, controlar l\u2019escarabat plaga de forma natural.    <\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-d522e39 elementor-widget elementor-widget-heading\" data-id=\"d522e39\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"heading.default\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<h3 class=\"elementor-heading-title elementor-size-default\">Resultats sorprenents: Trichoderma vs. Ambrosiella<\/h3>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-e490f49 elementor-widget__width-initial elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"e490f49\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>Investigadors de la Universitat de Cat\u00e0nia (It\u00e0lia) van dur a terme estudis de laboratori per posar a prova aquesta estrat\u00e8gia. El 2022, Gugliuzzo et al. van avaluar diferents agents de biocontrol, entre ells la <strong>soca T34 de <em>T. asperellum<\/em><\/strong>, contra <em>X. compactus<\/em> i el seu fong. Els assaigs van incloure proves <em>in vitro<\/em> (plaques de cultiu enfrontant el fong benefici\u00f3s amb <em>A. xylebori<\/em>) i <em>in vivo<\/em> (branquetes infestades amb escarabats, tractades amb els biofungicides). Els resultats van ser molt encoratjadors: <em>T. asperellum<\/em> T34 va aconseguir <strong>aturar el creixement del fong <em>Ambrosiella<\/em><\/strong> de manera significativa, tant en placa com a l\u2019interior de la fusta. En plaques de Petri, T34 va inhibir aproximadament un <strong>80% del creixement<\/strong> del miceli d\u2019A. xylebori gr\u00e0cies al seu r\u00e0pid sobrecreixement i a la compet\u00e8ncia. Per\u00f2 el m\u00e9s rellevant es va observar en les branquetes infestades: <strong>les galeries tractades amb T34 gaireb\u00e9 no van desenvolupar el fong<\/strong> i, en conseq\u00fc\u00e8ncia, moltes femelles de <em>X. compactus<\/em> no van aconseguir criar cap larva en aquestes galeries. En canvi, quan les branques havien estat tractades amb <em>T. asperellum<\/em> <strong>T34<\/strong>, la descend\u00e8ncia de l\u2019escarabat es va reduir dr\u00e0sticament a nom\u00e9s <strong>~1\u20134 cries per femella<\/strong> (barra verda). Aquest experiment demostra que, <strong>en impedir el creixement del fong mutualista<\/strong>, el tractament amb <em>T34<\/em> deixa les larves de <em>X. compactus<\/em> sense la seva font d\u2019aliment, provocant un col\u00b7lapse en la seva reproducci\u00f3. En molts casos, les galeries tractades amb <em>T34<\/em> <strong>no presentaven directament larves viables<\/strong>, sin\u00f3 \u00fanicament la mare i, eventualment, alguns ous no desenvolupats. La difer\u00e8ncia \u00e9s notable: sense el fong nutritiu, l\u2019escarabat pr\u00e0cticament <strong>no pot tirar endavant la seva descend\u00e8ncia<\/strong>.    <\/p><p>Els <em>Trichoderma<\/em> no van ser els \u00fanics avaluats. En l\u2019estudi de 2022 tamb\u00e9 es van provar un parell de soques de <strong>bacteris beneficiosos (<em>Bacillus<\/em>)<\/strong>, que igualment van mostrar potencial en suprimir <em>Ambrosiella<\/em>. De fet, <em>Bacillus amyloliquefaciens<\/em> D747 va aconseguir reduir la pres\u00e8ncia del fong a les galeries i disminuir la producci\u00f3 de cries en aproximadament un 82% a dosis elevades. No obstant aix\u00f2, la soca <em>T. asperellum<\/em> T34 va destacar com un dels agents m\u00e9s consistents: <strong>amb una aplicaci\u00f3 adequada, va aconseguir fins a un 95% de reducci\u00f3 en el nombre de cries<\/strong> de l\u2019escarabat. En altres paraules, all\u00e0 on un escarabat produiria normalment unes 20 descendents, amb T34 amb prou feines en produ\u00efa 1. Aquest nivell d\u2019efic\u00e0cia, tant <em>in vitro<\/em> com <em>in vivo<\/em>, va constituir una prova de concepte s\u00f2lida que sabotear la relaci\u00f3 fong-insecte \u00e9s una estrat\u00e8gia viable.     <\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-24c4382 elementor-widget elementor-widget-heading\" data-id=\"24c4382\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"heading.default\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<h3 class=\"elementor-heading-title elementor-size-default\">Del laboratori al camp: un futur control biol\u00f2gic integrat<\/h3>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-813709c elementor-widget__width-initial elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"813709c\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>Animats per aquests resultats, el 2025 Costanzo et al. van publicar un estudi ampliant la investigaci\u00f3, incloent proves amb <strong>fungicides qu\u00edmics<\/strong> juntament amb els biol\u00f2gics i simulant condicions m\u00e9s properes al camp. En aquests experiments, es van tractar plantes joves de llorer (una planta hoste) amb diferents fungicides abans d\u2019exposar-les a l\u2019escarabat. Els fungicides sint\u00e8tics (com el <strong>tiofanat-metil<\/strong> i l\u2019<strong>azoxistrobina<\/strong>) van mostrar la major reducci\u00f3 de la poblaci\u00f3 de l\u2019escarabat, ja que en infiltrar-se a la fusta van eliminar efica\u00e7ment el fong cultivat i van reduir significativament el nombre de galeries amb cries.   <\/p><p>No obstant aix\u00f2, entre les opcions biol\u00f2giques, novament va <strong>destacar <em>Trichoderma asperellum<\/em> T34<\/strong>: va ser <strong>l\u2019\u00fanica<\/strong> que va aconseguir frenar de manera considerable el fong mutualista en les plantes tractades. En concret, l\u2019aplicaci\u00f3 de T34 a la rizosfera dels llorers infectats va reduir <strong>a la meitat<\/strong> la longitud de les lesions f\u00fangiques a l\u2019interior de la fusta (29,47 mm amb T34 vs. 60,65 mm en plantes control). Aquesta \u201clesi\u00f3\u201d \u00e9s b\u00e0sicament la taca fosca de teixit mort que causa <em>Ambrosiella<\/em> en propagar-se; la seva menor mida indica que el fong estava molt menys actiu en les plantes tractades amb T34.  <\/p><p>Els altres dos productes avaluats, basats en dues soques de <em>Trichoderma<\/em> i en un <em>Bacillus<\/em>, van mostrar una tend\u00e8ncia a reduir la longitud de les lesions (44,11 mm i 50,40 mm, respectivament), tot i que sense difer\u00e8ncies significatives respecte al control. Segons els autors de l\u2019estudi, la colonitzaci\u00f3 de l\u2019arrel per <em>T. asperellum<\/em> T34 podria haver indu\u00eft resist\u00e8ncia sist\u00e8mica a la planta, modificant la interacci\u00f3 mutualista entre l\u2019escarabat i el fong. Aquest estudi amplia el coneixement sobre l\u2019\u00fas de biofungicides per trencar la interacci\u00f3 entre <em>X. compactus<\/em> i el seu principal mutualista, <em>A. xylebori<\/em>.  <\/p><p>Per qu\u00e8 T34 va funcionar especialment b\u00e9? Els investigadors proposen dos mecanismes complementaris. En primer lloc, <em>T. asperellum<\/em> T34 competeix directament amb <em>A. xylebori<\/em>: creix m\u00e9s r\u00e0pid, ocupa l\u2019espai a la galeria i pot secretar enzims o compostos que inhibeixen l\u2019altre fong. En segon lloc, T34 <strong>estimula les defenses naturals de la planta<\/strong> hoste. Les evid\u00e8ncies mostren que l\u2019aplicaci\u00f3 de T34 a les arrels del llorer va induir una resposta sist\u00e8mica de l\u2019arbre, fent-lo menys favorable per a la colonitzaci\u00f3 f\u00fangica als seus vasos. \u00c9s a dir, l\u2019arbre \u201ces defensa millor\u201d quan les seves arrels estan colonitzades per T34, un fenomen conegut com a <strong>resist\u00e8ncia sist\u00e8mica indu\u00efda<\/strong>. Aquesta estrat\u00e8gia de gesti\u00f3 integrada de plagues obre una via de control m\u00e9s selectiva i ecol\u00f2gica: <strong>el biocontrol mitjan\u00e7ant l\u2019alteraci\u00f3 del micobioma<\/strong> de l\u2019insecte. <\/p><p><strong>Interrompre la mutualitat de l\u2019ambrosia<\/strong> representa un canvi de paradigma interessant en la protecci\u00f3 forestal i agr\u00edcola. En lloc d\u2019aplicar fungicides o insecticides d\u2019ampli espectre (que poden danyar la biodiversitat), s\u2019introdueix un organisme benefici\u00f3s que desarma la plaga de manera natural. <\/p><p>En conclusi\u00f3, l\u2019\u00fas de <em>Trichoderma asperellum<\/em> T34 contra <em>Xylosandrus compactus<\/em> \u00e9s una estrat\u00e8gia biotecnol\u00f2gica prometedora i respectuosa amb el medi ambient. Els estudis de Gugliuzzo et al. (2022) i Costanzo et al. (2025) aporten<strong> proves de concepte s\u00f2lides<\/strong> que demostren que atacar la simbiosi fong-insecte<em> <\/em>\u00e9s efectiu, fet que representa una esperan\u00e7a en la lluita contra un escarabat invasor devastador. Amb biofungicides com el fong T34 al nostre costat, \u00e9s possible <strong>protegir boscos i cultius reduint la depend\u00e8ncia de productes qu\u00edmics<\/strong> i aprofitant les pr\u00f2pies rivalitats naturals entre microorganismes.
