Expansion of uses: Morocco

Biocontrol Technologies Expands Presence in Morocco and Receives Approval for Key Crops in the Country.

In a significant advance for the Moroccan agricultural sector, Biocontrol Technologies has announced it is expanding the use of its product, ASPERELLO® T34 Biocontrol,, to include berries in its registered crops, specifically strawberries, raspberries and blueberries. This expansion represents a strategic move given the economic importance of berries to the country.

The recent authorizations are a significant achievement for Biocontrol Technologies,, reinforcing the key role of these crops in the Moroccan agricultural landscape. The product will be distributed by Biobetter (Biobest), and prior to expansion was authorised for use in tomato and pepper crops.

Berries have become a key sector in driving the Moroccan economy, as growing international demand increases export prospects. The sector is about to reach a record 350,000 tons of strawberries, raspberries and blueberries in the near future, reinforcing its position as a key economic contributor.

Involving more than 500 farmers and more than 100,000 employees, berry production covers around 13,500 hectares. Blueberries cover 4,080 hectares, raspberries 4,600 hectares and strawberries 3,080 hectares, with 75% of those located in the north of the country. Moroccan berries aren’t limited to the European market, they are also exported to countries and regions in the Middle East, Asia and the United States.

It is hoped that the expansion of ASPERELLO® T34 Biocontrol for use in strawberries, raspberries and blueberries increases the success of the berries sector in Morocco, not only domestically but on a global scale.
