University Chair
Chair of Microorganisms for Agriculture - Biocontrol Technologies

UB Chair of Microorganisms for Agriculture. Why
This chair is the result of the research work developed in the Faculty of Biology by the team led by Dr. Mª Isabel Trillas.
Mª Isabel Trillas.

Brief review of the history of Biocontrol Technologies.
The main line of research is the study of microorganisms involved in the natural suppressive capacity, located in agro-industrial waste compost, against the most frequent crop diseases.
The result of years of work led to the isolation of a selected strain, the microorganism Trichoderma asperellum, strain T34, which forms the basis for the patent and the subsequent development of a product (T34 Biocontrol®) by Biocontrol Technologies, S.L.

At present.
Since the last 10 years, and more recently with the agreement of the European Green Pact, some of the objectives for 2030 are perfectly aligned with this Chair, such as: the reduction by 50% of chemical plant protection products, achieving that organic farming represents 25% of the European arable area, as well as the use of microbial biostimulants used as alternatives to mineral fertilizers used in agriculture, among others.
The objectives of the Chair.

Promote the development and research of new agricultural practices related to biological control based on microorganisms.

To provide updated information on microorganisms used in agriculture, as phytosanitary or biostimulants.

Encourage the transfer of information.

To give a voice to professionals in the sector and to serve as a bridge between those interested in Biological Control and scientific researchers.

Activities
In this section we will keep you updated on activities related to the Chair, including:
– Seminars:
Small lectures (online and/or in which we will develop topics of interest focused on different audiences, from students to professionals in the field.
– Contests:
A wide range of activities focused on encouraging and motivating students who maintain a relationship with science and focus their future career in the field of agriculture.
Here, we include from photographic contests to the awarding of prizes for TFG projects and scholarships for TFM.
– Workshops and round tables:
Participants will be able to discuss and/or put into practice current topics related to the knowledge linked to this Chair.
– Others:
In addition to the activities mentioned above, the UB Chair of Microorganisms for Agriculture will also make different proposals.
An example of this is the participation in the Annual Technology Transfer Plan of the Generalitat de Catalunya.
In addition, by following us on our social networks you will be able to know before anyone else the dates of each of them and participate if you wish.
We will soon update the section with the calendar of activities for the year 2023.
Don’t miss it!
