Presentation of the Awards for the Best Final Degree Project 2025 of the UB–Biocontrol Technologies Chair
On January 28, 2026 , within the framework of the 1st Annual Conference of the UB–Biocontrol Technologies Chair in Microorganisms for Agriculture , held at the Faculty of Biology of the University of Barcelona, the Best Final Degree Project (TFG) Awards 2025 took place.
This competition aims to recognize young talent and promote applied research in areas related to agricultural microbiology, sustainability and innovation in the agri-food sector, while also promoting the link between the university and the professional environment.
After evaluating the works presented by students from different universities, the jury —formed by Dr. Maria Isabel Trillas (professor emeritus at the University of Barcelona and former director of the Chair), Dr. Guillem Segarra (Serra Húnter lecturer and deputy director of the Chair) and Dr. Elena Fernández (senior researcher at Biocontrol Technologies)— agreed to award the following prizes:

Compatibility of microbial strains for the constitution of a biostimulating microbial consortium -
Second prize (€500)
Luis Soto Rodriguez
Beyond conventional growth: Impact of environmental conditions on the sulphur-oxidizing bacteria of the soil community -
Third prize (€300)
Joan Vincent Ferrer
Effect of biostimulants on the quality and production of early apricot trees
The awards were presented by Dr. José Luis Araus , professor at the University of Barcelona and current director of the Chair, during the conference, which brought together students, researchers, professionals from the sector and representatives of companies and institutions in a space aimed at the transfer of knowledge and the promotion of innovative solutions for a more sustainable agriculture .
This competition is part of the Chair’s strategic activities, aimed at promoting young talent, bringing research closer to the productive sector and promoting scientific vocations in the field of microbiology and biocontrol.
