Biocontrol Technologies held a technical event in Almería to mark the 25th anniversary of T34 Biocontrol®, bringing together approximately 120 agricultural professionals from the region.

The event, co-organised by Biocontrol Technologies and  Alvi Nutrientes and titled From University Research to the Field, traced the product’s journey from its scientific origins at the Universitat de Barcelona to its current presence in more than 20 countries. It also presented, for the first time, results from a real success case under commercial production conditions.

The event was structured in three sections. The first, led by Eduard Fernando, Chief Executive Officer of Biocontrol Technologies, offered an institutional overview of the company: its evolution since the founding of the university spin-off in 2004, the most significant regulatory milestones, and the international distribution network that today supports the product across the world’s leading agricultural markets. The second section, delivered by Lydia Bakagianni, Technical Commercial Manager at the company, focused on the agronomic characteristics of T34 Biocontrol®: a product formulated with the exclusive T-34 strain of Trichoderma asperellum, recognised for its effectiveness in disease control. With a highly concentrated formulation (10⁹ CFU/g) in wettable powder, it stands out for its high root persistence (between 8 and 12 weeks), as well as being a zero-residue product exempt from maximum residue limits (MRL), applicable throughout the entire crop cycle with no pre-harvest interval.

The centrepiece of the event was the presentation of a field study conducted with LQA Thinking Organic, delivered by Jordi Fumadó, Commercial Coordinator at Biocontrol Technologies, featuring results obtained in organic courgette production in El Ejido. The trial, developed in collaboration with José Manuel Escobar, founder of LQA, assessed the impact of T34 Biocontrol® on three key aspects of courgette crop profitability: the control of soilborne diseases during the establishment phase, week-on-week production improvement, and the viability of extending the growing period.

The results presented in Almería confirm that integrating T34 Biocontrol® into a commercial crop management programme can deliver benefits beyond plant health protection, with measurable improvements in crop establishment, yield and profitability.

If you would like to explore the full methodology and data behind the trial, we will soon be publishing a technical article on our blog.
